However, it is important to keep in mind that mirrors were exclusively hand made during the period of Renaissance and that each piece is unique. For that reason you are highly recommended not to get too excited about a particular mirror because you will not find another one. Rather than getting into details, focus on size, shape and the price.
If you are after a fine Renaissance mirror, you should visit some auctions selling antiquities but keep in mind that the prices on auctions can be very high. But on the other hand, not everyone on the auction have an unlimited budget and there is always a chance that they are after a specific antiquity (hopefully not your Renaissance mirror). As a result, they are more likely to pass on less “important” antiquities.
It is also a good idea to consider buying only a frame because a well preserved Renaissance mirror with the glass is considerably more expensive than only a frame. Having it restored will of course cost you, however, it is typically less expensive to have an antiquity restored by yourself than buying it already restored.
In the end, you should also consider browsing the web. It may not be the best place for buying antiquities especially as old as Renaissance ones but it is possible to find some great things online as well. It is crucial, however, to buy only from reputable antique dealers and stores.

It is possible to find well made replicas and Renaissance style mirrors which can be bought at a great price. They are not exactly Renaissance mirrors in the true meaning of the word but if you are only looking for a Renaissance style mirror that will go well with the rest of your home décor, they are worth considering as well. |
